Chris Jent known by most as CJ, is Summer 2020’s Featured Alumni.  Having graduated from Sparta High School in 1998, Chris continued his education at Ohio State University as a student athlete where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree.  After graduation from Ohio State University, one of his most significant goals was achieved as he became a professional basketball player in the NBA. Although he is no longer a player, basketball still remains an instrumental part of his life. As a professional coach for the Hawks, Chris continues to pursue life goals.  When asked what his future plans were, Chris stated, “Professionally I want to be an NBA Head Coach. Recreationally I'd like to stand up paddle board the shore line of Lake Tahoe.”

Although Chris’s professional career is demanding, his love and pride for Sparta High School is still a priority for him.  This year, Chris was the guest speaker at the Class of 2020’s virtual graduation ceremony.  When asked if there was a specific individual(s) that had a positive impact on him during his student career at Sparta High School, he stated, “There were several teachers and administrators that had a big impact, but Coach Dennis Tobin was the most impactful.” When asked what words of advice he’d like to give future Sparta alumni he stated, “Life is about finding solutions and creating avenues to reach your goals! It's important to verbalize your goals in life. Let it be known what you want to do; this helps you hold yourself accountable. It reminds us of what we want to achieve.”

One of Chris’s favorite quotes is in the words of Mahatma Gandhi: "Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” Chris, the Sparta High School Alumni Association feels you do that quote proud! We are proud to recognize you for all your past, current, and future accomplishments, and we wish you all the best!
