School-Based Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy in a school setting focuses on helping children fulfill their role as students by supporting academic achievement and promoting positive behaviors necessary for learning.  In schools, occupational therapists focus on academics, play and leisure, social participation, self-care skills (ADLs, or Activities of Daily Living), and transition/work skills. Occupational therapists in the schools serve individual students, groups of students, whole classrooms, and whole school initiatives in order to support student success.
