Culinary Cuisine Club

The Culinary Cuisine Club will expand the culinary experience to SHS students who enjoy baking and cooking. Members will reach out to the comunity in need by providing culinary creations prepared by the students. Members will also practice and learn extra techniques not typically covered during a class session. The club will offer first-hand culinary experiences in cuisines from around the world. Food tastings at local restaurants or festivals, food shows, site visits to tech schools offering culinary programs, as well as food banks and soup kitchens are possible activities.

Digital Marketing Club

The club offers an immersive learning experience that goes beyond the basics. Going step-by-step teaching its members successfully how to not only create a digital webpage to sell items but will also master every element of digital selling and marketing.

Dungeons and Dragons Club

Dungeons and Dragons is a tabletop game where players create characters with abilities and stories. One person acts as the Dungeon Master, whose role is the storyteller, leading a group of characters through a storyline. They are dedicated to setting up the world, describing it, and explaining the effects characters have on the environment and on non-playable characters that exist in the storyline. 

Members will learn and practice working collaboratively to solve a problem, use critical thinking skills and logical reasoning, practice math, and social skills, and work on their ability to think quickly and creatively at the moment in unique situations. Leaders will coordinate with Game Masters to document games and to ensure they run smoothly and fairly. Game Masters will volunteer, or the governing board will act as a Game Master.

Find the Courage

Find the Courage is an anti-bullying volunteer program that is available to all seniors who exhibit positive attitudes along with leadership qualities at Sparta High School. Seniors will be trained by the Center for Prevention and Counseling, once a week, to teach one or two anti-bullying health lessons, as well as run an anti-bullying event at the high school. The seniors use these lessons to form a positive school climate in which school-wide events are hosted by these lessons learned.

Gay/Straight Alliance

The Gay/Straight Alliance is an organization that embraces diversity and confronts the struggles presented by intolerance and bigotry. It is open to all students and its purpose is to unite and educate our school population about difference and acceptance and the spectrum of experiences that make us unique and individual.

High School Diversity Council

The High School Diversity Council is a student leadership group who attend various workshops and conferences, participate in the facilitation of skills training, and demonstrate an interest in working with other students on issues of social justice and diversity. The purpose of this council is to create an inclusive environment at Sparta High School and the learning community by providing students with the opportunities to engage in discussions about social issues, identity, current events, and culture. Student leaders are chosen by election and organizational decisions will be made in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Sigma Tau Delta and National English Honor Society chapter advisor book.

Mountain Biking Club

The Mountain Bike Club's goal is to encourage more students to get out on the bike trails surrounding the Sparta area and to foster new friendships in the mountain biking community. The club's focus is on developing student bike skills, increasing physical fitness, and encouraging students to ride more together. Student leaders will help lead fellow riders. Whether riders are accustomed to the downhill of Mountain Creek, the single track of Mahlon Dickerson, or even the Sussex Rail Trails, this club invites riders of all interests and levels. It will be led by National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) coaches and in partnership with our local bike shop.

Sparta Rowing Club

Crew is a growing activity in and around Sussex County. Sparta is a prime spot for this club with Lake Mohawk providing a natural practice location. Most of the training will take place in Sparta at Lake Mohawk. Student leaders will serve as captains and assistant coaches of the crew. The rowing club will develop leaders helping to build the sport around the lake community.

Student Advisory Board

The Student Advisory Board's purpose is to create an active bridge of communication between the students and the board of education/administration. It will also give a space for interested students to share their experiences, perspectives, and opinions and to directly share student suggestions with the board of education.

We Are The Dream

We are the Dream is a club where all students have a safe place for open dialogue to promote inclusion and celebrate the diversity of the entire student body. Its goals are to advocate for students that experience discrimination of any kind, to stop the perpetuation of racism within the school, and to promote a school culture where all are welcomed and supported. The club also serves as a platform that allows students to share their experiences and perspectives on issues that students are facing in school.

Some other opportunities are to:

  • develop forums to share relevant information on topics based on needs;

  • create opportunities to showcase student experiences and celebrate diversity;

  • participate in school initiatives to promote inclusion and positive school culture and climate;

  • serve as student liaisons for the district culture and climate committee - Sparta C3 and the Diversity Council;

  • participate in social justice activities and events that advocate on behalf of all students;

  • provide service to the school community through volunteerism.
